Scripture Reading: Psalm 34:17–18 (KJV)
17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Romans 10:13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
In Mark 10, when Bartimaeus cries out, the crowd tries to hush him. But he refuses to be silenced. Then comes this heart-stirring moment: “And Jesus stood still.”
The sermon drew out this truth: God stops when He hears a sinner pray. Heaven leans in when a broken heart cries, “Have mercy on me.” God is not indifferent. He does not rush past the needy soul.
Psalm 34 tells us, “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.” Near, not far. Attentive, not distracted. When you feel least worthy to pray, that’s often when His ear is closest.
Romans 10:13 widens the invitation: “whosoever shall call.” You may feel disqualified by your past, your failures, your secret sins—but “whosoever” includes you. The only ones who miss out are those who will not call.
The sermon also applied this to believers. When you cry as a child of God—“Lord, I need You. Remove the obstacles. Help me serve You, pray more, stay in Your Word”—He listens. Your prayers are not background noise in heaven. They are precious to God.
Bartimaeus’s prayer was simple and specific: “have mercy on me… that I might receive my sight.” God is not impressed with fancy phrases. He responds to honest, humble, faith-filled cries.
Father,
Thank You that You are near to the brokenhearted.
Thank You that when a sinner or a struggling saint cries out, You hear.
Forgive me for doubting Your attentiveness to my prayers.
Give me the courage to bring my real needs to You—honestly, humbly, specifically.
Teach me to pray like Bartimaeus, refusing to be silenced until I have met with You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Set aside 10–15 minutes today for uninterrupted prayer.
Write those specific requests down and date them. Look back in the weeks ahead for how God answers.
