Psalm 33:12
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.”
Isaiah 33:22
“For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.”
Our forefathers, though imperfect men, recognized something vital: God rules over nations. Isaiah 33:22 shows God in all three roles our founders built into our government: Judge (judicial), Lawgiver (legislative), and King (executive). Whether leaders acknowledge it or not, God is the ultimate authority.
Psalm 33:12 declares, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.” National blessing is tied not merely to economic strength or military might, but to who is truly recognized as God. When a people honor Him, there is blessing. When a people reject Him, reproach and judgment follow.
The sermon reminded us that many are trying to remove God from public life, from currency, from pledges, from public statements. But no law can dethrone God. He is still Judge, Lawgiver, and King. Satan rages, people rebel, but Christ has already won. As the preacher said of Satan: “He’s already been defeated; he just doesn’t realize it yet.”
This truth should both sober us and steady us. It should sober us because God will not be mocked; sin has consequences for nations. It should steady us because our hope does not rest in an election, a court, or a congress, but in the Lord who will “save us” and who will have the last word in history.
Sovereign Lord,
You are the Judge, the Lawgiver, and the King. I confess that I sometimes act as if people and politics are in control. Forgive my fear and unbelief. Help me to trust that You are still on the throne and that Your purposes cannot fail. Teach me to respond to the condition of my nation not with despair, but with faith, repentance, and persistent prayer. Bless this land by turning many hearts back to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
