Scripture Reading: Matthew 7:21 (KJV)
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
Jesus says “many” are on the broad road and “few” find the narrow way. That “many” is sobering. It includes open rebels, but it also includes moral people, religious people, and even people who use Jesus’ name.
In Matthew 7:21, He warns that not everyone who calls Him “Lord” belongs to Him. There will be people who sang the songs, bowed their heads, maybe even served in church — but were never born again. They had religion, but not regeneration. They had church, but not Christ.
The difference is not how loudly we say “Lord, Lord,” but whether our hearts have truly surrendered to Him in repentance and faith, producing a life that desires to do the Father’s will.
The “few” are not better people; they are forgiven people. They are those who have realized their sin, trusted in Christ’s finished work on the cross, and now follow Him as Lord.
Father, protect me from being deceived. I don’t want to be merely religious; I want to be truly redeemed. Search my heart. Show me if there is any false profession in me. Help me rest in Christ alone and produce genuine obedience that comes from a changed heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Examine one regular habit in your life (entertainment, speech, money, relationships). Ask honestly: does this habit reflect someone on the broad way or the narrow way? Make at least one concrete change today that lines up with obedience to Christ.
