Scripture Reading (KJV)

15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Devotional

Good soil doesn’t happen by accident. In Jesus’ description, those who are “good ground” have an “honest and good heart.” They do three things:

  1. They hear the word – They truly listen, not just with their ears but with a humble, open heart.
  2. They keep it – They hold onto the Word. They don’t let the devil snatch it, trials uproot it, or thorns choke it. They cling to it in faith and obedience.
  3. They bring forth fruit with patience – Fruit does not appear overnight. Roots must grow, storms must be endured, seasons must pass. But in time, God produces Christlike character, obedience, and influence in and through them.

A responsive heart is not perfect, but it is honest, teachable, and willing. It says to God, “Yes, Lord,” before knowing all the details, just as Isaiah did: “Here am I; send me.” This heart lets the Word go deep, accepts the cost of obedience, and refuses to let this world crowd Christ out.

God is still sowing His Word into your life. He desires to make you fruitful—for His glory, for the good of others, and for your eternal joy. The question is: Will you be good ground?

Reflection

  • When I look back over the last year, is there any visible fruit from God’s Word in my life (growth in holiness, love for others, boldness in witness, generosity, obedience)?
  • Am I willing to persevere “with patience” and let God do a slow, deep work in me?

Prayer

Lord, I desire to be good ground. Give me an honest and good heart. Help me to hear Your Word, keep it, and bear fruit with patience. Uproot whatever does not belong, and plant in me everything that pleases You. Make my life a testimony of the power of Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Action

Choose one specific command or principle from Scripture that you know God has been pressing on your heart (forgiveness, giving, serving, sharing the gospel, purity, etc.). Today, take one concrete, costly step of obedience in that area. Tell someone you trust what you did, so they can encourage you to keep walking in that obedience.

Use these five days not only to read about a responsive heart, but to practice one. God is faithful: when His Word falls on good ground, it will bear fruit.
