Scripture Reading: Exodus 2:4–9 (KJV)
“And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.
And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.
And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.
Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?
And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother.
And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.”
Devotional
The scene at the river is a masterpiece of providence:
If this were fiction, we might say it’s too neat to be believable. But this is not coincidence; it is Providence. As the sermon stated, God made sure the right person was in the right place at the right time.
God still works this way. A “chance” meeting. A delayed schedule. A conversation you didn’t plan. A door that opens or closes unexpectedly. Behind it all, for His children, is the wise hand of a Father coordinating details you could never arrange.
This does not mean life is painless or easy; Moses was still under a death decree, his parents still slaves. But even in danger, God was weaving a deliverer’s story.
Reflection
Prayer
Sovereign Lord,
Thank You that nothing in my life is random. Thank You that You can guide eyes to see, hearts to feel, and mouths to speak at just the right time. Help me to trust Your timing even when I don’t understand it, and to be ready—like Miriam—to act in faith when You open opportunities. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Action
Think of one “coincidence” from your past that looks like providence now. Tell that story to someone today (family, friend, or fellow believer) and explicitly give glory to God for His timing.
