Joshua 24:15
“…choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17
“Pray without ceasing.”
The sermon ended with a clear call: our forefathers claimed America for God; we must reclaim America for God. But that work does not begin in Washington; it begins in our homes and churches.
Joshua stood before Israel and confronted them with a choice. They could serve the false gods around them—or they could serve the living God. Then he drew a personal line in the sand: “As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” He didn’t wait for a national consensus. He started with his own family.
We live in a culture where many false “gods” demand our loyalty: pleasure, entertainment, money, success, comfort, politics, self. If we are going to be part of God’s work in our nation, we must decide, like Joshua, whom we will serve, practically, in our time, habits, priorities, and words.
“Pray without ceasing” reminds us that reclaiming anything for God is not done in our own strength. It is done through ongoing dependence on Him. When Christian families pray together, live by God’s Word, and shine for Christ in their communities, they become small but powerful outposts of God’s kingdom in a dark world.
If Christians truly are the majority in this nation, as some surveys suggest, then the issue is not our numbers but our faithfulness. Will we serve the Lord wholeheartedly, or blend in quietly while darkness shouts?
Father,
I choose You today. I confess that my home and my heart have not always been fully Yours. Show me where other “gods” have taken Your place in my priorities and habits. Help me to lead my home—whether I live alone or with family—in a way that clearly says, “We will serve the LORD.” Teach me to pray without ceasing and to depend on You for strength. Use my life and my household as a small part of reclaiming this nation for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
