Scripture: John 20:20 (KJV)
“And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.”
Devotional
The disciples had seen Jesus beaten, nailed to a cross, and placed in a tomb. Their hope had been shattered. Yet now the risen Christ shows them His hands and His side—the very marks of crucifixion transformed into proof of victory.
He does not hide His wounds. He uses them to reassure their faith.
We often say, “If God would just show me something… then I’d really believe, really obey, really be excited.” But God has already given the greatest proof:
If that is not enough, the problem is not a lack of proof—it is a wandering heart. Like Thomas, we can become “faithless” when we demand more evidence while ignoring what God has already done.
The disciples went from despair to gladness when they saw the Lord. Not just the facts, but Him. Your faith is strengthened not merely by gathering information about Jesus, but by encountering the living Jesus through His Word and Spirit.
Reflection
In what areas am I saying, “God, I need more proof,” instead of remembering what He has already shown me? What past work of God in my life have I allowed to fade from my memory?
Prayer
My Lord and my God,
Thank You for the proof of Your love in the wounds of Jesus and the power of Your resurrection. Forgive me for doubting when You have already given more than enough evidence. Open my eyes to see You more clearly, not just my problems. Strengthen my faith where it is weak, and turn my doubts into gladness as I “see the Lord” in Your Word and in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Action
Write down at least three specific ways God has proved Himself to you in the past (answered prayers, protection, salvation, guidance, etc.). Thank Him for each one by name, and ask Him to help you treat these as settled evidence—not to be forgotten when new challenges arise.
