Scripture: John 20:19 (KJV)
“Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.”

Devotional
The disciples were hiding. Their dreams seemed crushed, their Master was crucified, and fear of the Jews locked them in a room and in their own hearts. Yet it is into that fear-filled room that the risen Christ suddenly appears—and His first words are not rebuke, but blessing: “Peace be unto you.”

Notice:

  • Their circumstances had not changed.
  • Their enemies were still dangerous.
  • Their future still looked uncertain.

But Jesus stepped right into the middle of it all and spoke peace. His presence, not their environment, brought peace. The same risen Lord who walked through shut doors can step into your shut-down heart, your closed-off mind, your anxious week, and speak the same word: Peace be unto you.

Peace is not the absence of problems; it is the presence of a victorious Savior who has already conquered sin, death, hell, and the grave. If He has overcome the greatest enemies, will He not sustain you in the lesser battles of today?

Reflection
Where have I let fear shut the door of my heart—fear about my future, my family, my finances, or my failures? Do I believe that Jesus can step into that place as it is and speak peace?

Prayer
Lord Jesus, risen Savior,
You see every locked place in my life—every fear, every anxiety, every hidden room where I try to protect myself. Step into the midst of my heart today and speak, “Peace be unto you.” Help me to believe that Your victory on the cross and in the empty tomb is enough for what I face right now. Quiet my fears, calm my thoughts, and fill me with the peace that passeth all understanding. In Your holy name I pray, Amen.

Action
Take 5 minutes today to sit quietly and picture Jesus standing in the midst of your situation. Out loud, name the specific fear or worry you’re carrying, and then say slowly: “Lord Jesus, speak Your peace into this.” Repeat John 20:19b (“Peace be unto you”) several times, letting it settle into your heart.
