Scripture (KJV)
John 20:27–28
“Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.”
Devotional
Thomas is often remembered for his doubt, but his story doesn’t end there. When Jesus graciously invited him to touch the wounds and see for himself, Thomas responded with one of the clearest confessions in all Scripture: “My Lord and my God.”
This is more than agreement with a fact—Jesus is alive. It is a personal surrender:
Many are content to treat Jesus as a helpful figure: a good example, a comforting presence on special days like Easter. But the resurrection demands more. The risen Christ has the right to command absolute obedience, unconditional surrender, and wholehearted devotion.
When Jesus becomes your Lord and your God, everything else must bow—your fears, your plans, your comforts, your sins. Like the disciples, following Him becomes the chief concern of your life.
Reflection
Am I relating to Jesus mainly as a helper when I’m in trouble, or truly as “my Lord and my God”? Is there any area of my life where I am resisting His lordship?
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
I confess that You are not only risen, but You are my Lord and my God. Forgive me for the times I have tried to use You without obeying You, to claim Your promises without submitting to Your authority. Today I surrender afresh—my will, my plans, my fears, and my sins—to Your rule. Take Your rightful place at the center of my life. Help me to live in a way that shows You are truly my Lord and my God. In Your name, Amen.
Action
Ask the Lord honestly: “Is there any area where I am saying ‘no’ to You?” When something comes to mind—an attitude, habit, relationship, or decision—write it down and pray specifically, “Jesus, be Lord over this.” Take one concrete step of obedience in that area today.
