Scripture Reading: Mark 10:52 (KJV)
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
Ephesians 2:8–10
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
After Jesus heals Bartimaeus, He says, “Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole.” Bartimaeus is free. He can go wherever he wants. His eyes are open, his future different from anything he’d imagined.
What does he do? “Immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.”
Salvation is by grace through faith—not of works. We cannot earn it or add to it. But truly saved people do not remain as they were. We are “created in Christ Jesus unto good works,” and God has “ordained” that we should walk in them.
The sermon raised a piercing question: when Jesus saved your soul, did you start following Him right away? And if you did, are you still following Him?
It is possible to sit in church week after week with a backslidden heart—hearing sermons but not heeding them, singing songs but not surrendering. Outwardly present, inwardly distant.
Bartimaeus’s healing led immediately to discipleship. He didn’t go back to the roadside routine. He walked a new way, with new eyes, behind a new Master.
If you truly belong to Jesus, your life is not your own. You were bought with a price. The appropriate response to “Thy faith hath made thee whole” is, “Because You saved me, I will follow You.”
Lord Jesus,
Thank You that I am saved by grace through faith, not by my works.
But thank You also that You saved me unto good works.
Forgive me where I have settled into comfort instead of obedience.
Renew in me the heart of a follower, not just a spectator.
Order my steps in Your Word, guide my decisions, and lead me in Your way.
Let my life after salvation prove the reality of the salvation You have given.
In Your name, Amen.

Ask the Lord to make you, like Bartimaeus, someone who not only receives from Jesus, but follows Him in the way.
