Scripture Reading: Hebrews 10:24–25 (KJV)
Hebrews 10:24–25 – “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Galatians 6:9 – “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Discouragement is one of Satan’s most effective tools. He knows that if he can’t make you quit on Christ, he might still tempt you to grow weary, withdraw, and become inconsistent in your commitment to God’s house.
The sermon emphasized how discouraging it is for pastors and teachers to prepare all week, only to see empty seats or to hear criticism right before preaching or teaching. Satan delights in using the disloyalty and inconsistency of professing Christians to weaken the morale of God’s servants and the momentum of the church.
Hebrews 10 tells us not to forsake assembling together, especially “as ye see the day approaching.” In other words, the closer we get to Christ’s return, the more we will need one another. Church isn’t a casual option; it’s a God-ordained means of strength, encouragement, exhortation, and growth.
Your presence matters. Your encouragement matters. Your faithfulness matters. You can either be one more weight on the pastor’s shoulders or one more reason for him to rejoice and press on.
Satan wants to use your apathy, your complaints, or your absence to discourage the church. God wants to use your faithfulness, your words, and your service to strengthen it.
Lord,
Forgive me for the times I have discouraged Thy servants and Thy church by my inconsistency, indifference, or critical spirit. Help me to see the local church as Thou seest it—a body that needs every member. Make me faithful in assembling with Thy people, and use my words and presence to provoke others to love and good works, not to weariness and defeat. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
