Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)

Hebrews 11:6
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Romans 10:17
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Devotional

The “heroes” of Hebrews 11—Abraham, Sarah, Moses, and others—were not extraordinary people with special powers. They were ordinary people with an extraordinary faith in a holy God. They took God at His Word, even when what He promised seemed impossible.

We sometimes read about them and think, “I could never do that.” But Scripture shows they struggled and failed too. The difference is not in who they were—it’s in whom they trusted.

Faith that pleases God is rooted in His Word. If we neglect the Bible, our faith will be weak. If we argue with Scripture, rationalize it away, or only accept the parts that fit our lifestyle, we will never grow into God’s kind of heroes. Heroes of faith believe that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will do.

Reflection

  • Are there portions of God’s Word you tend to avoid, doubt, or explain away?
  • How consistent is your daily time in Scripture? Has it become a “broken habit”?

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for giving me Your perfect, inerrant Word. Forgive me for the times I have neglected it or doubted it. Increase my faith as I read and hear Your Word. Help me to take You at Your Word, even when I cannot see how things will work out. Make me a person of the Book, a hero of faith who trusts You fully. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Action

Set aside a specific, non-negotiable time today (and for the next four days) to read the Bible. Start by reading Hebrews 11 slowly. Underline every phrase that shows what these people believed about God.
