Scripture Reading: Genesis 18:14; Luke 1:37; Romans 8:31 (KJV)
Genesis 18:14 – Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
Luke 1:37 – For with God nothing shall be impossible.
Romans 8:31 – What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Throughout the sermon, a theme repeated: we put a cap on God’s capability. We decide what He can do based on what we’ve seen before, what feels reasonable, or what makes sense to us.
Sarah thought 90-year-old women don’t have babies.
We think:
Twice, God repeated His promise to Abraham and Sarah: “Sarah shall have a son.” He even confronted Sarah’s denial: “Nay; but thou didst laugh.” The Lord does not ignore our unbelief; He exposes it so He can heal it.
Luke 1:37 echoes Genesis 18:14: “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” This is spoken in the context of another miraculous birth—this time of the Messiah Himself. From Sarah’s womb to Mary’s womb, God specializes in doing what human beings call impossible.
Romans 8:31 then brings it home: “If God be for us, who can be against us?”
The question is not whether obstacles are real, but whether God is greater than those obstacles. We act as if circumstances, people, or even our own failures are stronger than the God who raised Jesus from the dead.
Taking the limits off God does not mean He will do anything we imagine. It means we stop assuming that what He has clearly promised in His Word cannot come to pass in our lives. It means we stop “laughing within ourselves” when He speaks, and start saying, like Mary, “Be it unto me according to thy word” (Luke 1:38).
The sermon pressed this question:
“Who told you not to believe?”
It wasn’t God.
Almighty God,
You ask, “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?” and I confess that my thoughts and fears have often answered, “Yes.” Forgive me for limiting You in my heart. Forgive me for trusting my understanding more than Your Word. Teach me to pray and live as if nothing is impossible with You, and as if You truly are for me in Christ. Replace my inner laughter of doubt with the joy of faith. I place [name your specific situation] in Your hands today and choose to trust You with it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Take the single hardest situation in your life right now—the one that seems absolutely impossible—and do three things:
