Mark 4:38–39
“And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
The disciples were looking at the storm. Jesus was asleep. To them, that looked like He didn’t care. But their problem was not the size of the storm—it was the size of their view of Jesus.
With just three words—“Peace, be still”—the wind and waves bowed in obedience. That is El Shaddai, Almighty God, in human flesh. The storm that terrified them was a light breeze to Him.
We usually do the same:
The bigness of God doesn’t mean you’ll avoid all storms, but it does mean no storm is beyond His command. Sometimes He calms the storm around you; sometimes He calms the storm in you. Either way, He is still Almighty.
What current “storm” in your life are you talking about more than you are talking to God about? How would your attitude change if you really believed Jesus could say, “Peace, be still” over it?
Lord Jesus,
You are Almighty God. The wind, the sea, and every force in this universe obey Your voice. Forgive me for allowing my fear to be greater than my faith. I bring my storm to You right now. Speak peace into my heart and into my situation according to Your will. Help me to trust that You care, even when You seem silent. In Your powerful name, Amen.
Write down one specific situation that feels like a storm. Under it, write these words: “Jesus is bigger than this.” Each time worry rises today, lay your hand on that paper and say out loud: “Lord, I trust You. You are Almighty.”
