Scripture Reading: John 4:23–26
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
The Samaritan woman carried a worship question: “Where can we worship? The Jews say in Jerusalem, we say in this mountain. Which place is right?” Rejected by the Jews, cut off from the temple, and stained by her past, she likely felt that “real worship” was for other people, not for someone like her.
Jesus changes the whole conversation: true worship is not tied to a place but to a Person. God is Spirit. He is seeking people who will worship Him “in spirit and in truth”—from the heart, sincerely, through the One who now stood before her: “I that speak unto thee am he.”
Because of Christ’s death and resurrection, the veil of the temple has been torn. If you belong to Jesus, you don’t have to go through anyone else—you enter the Holy of Holies when you pray. Every act of obedience, every moment you turn your heart toward God—at church, at home, at work—is worship.
True satisfaction flows not just from being forgiven but from a life of worship. When you live aware that you carry the presence of God, and you consciously honor Him in all you do, your thirst for significance, identity, and purpose is met in Him.
Father,
Thank You that in Christ I can come directly into Your presence. Teach me to worship You not only in church, but in every part of my life. Help me to live aware of Your presence, honoring You in spirit and in truth. May my satisfaction be found in You alone, not in what this world offers.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Choose one ordinary activity today (work, chores, driving, studying) and intentionally offer it to God as worship. As you do it, quietly pray, “Lord, I do this for You,” and keep that mindset as you go.
