Jeremiah 18:1-4
“The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.”
Devotional
God sent Jeremiah to the potter’s house to learn a spiritual lesson. Jeremiah watched as the potter worked with clay on the wheel. The clay was not in control. It did not decide its shape, purpose, or design. The potter did.
That is a picture of our relationship with God. He is the Potter, and we are the clay. Our lives belong in His hands. He knows what He is making. He knows what needs to be removed, corrected, reshaped, and strengthened.
Sometimes we want God to bless our plans instead of surrendering to His. But clay does not instruct the potter. Clay yields. The safest place for our lives is in the hands of the One who made us, saved us, and loves us.
Even when we are marred by sin, failure, pride, or disobedience, God is able to make us again. He does not give up on surrendered clay.
Reflection
Am I truly yielding to God’s hands, or am I resisting His work in my life?
Prayer
Lord, You are the Potter, and I am the clay. Forgive me for the times I have resisted Your will and tried to shape my own life. Help me to trust Your hands, Your timing, and Your purpose. Mold me into a vessel that pleases You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Action
Take a few minutes today to pray honestly: “Lord, have Thine own way in me.” Surrender one specific area of your life to His control.
