Scripture Reading: Psalm 139:23-24 KJV

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Devotional

This is one of the most honest prayers in Scripture: “Search me, O God.” It is one thing to know that God sees everything. It is another thing to invite Him to examine our hearts.

The psalmist was not asking God to look at everyone else first. He was not praying, “Lord, fix them.” He was praying, “Lord, search me.”

That is where revival begins.

It is easy to see the sins of a nation, a church, a family, or another person. But revival begins when we stand before God and say, “Lord, show me where I am wrong. Show me what needs to change in me.”

God knows our hearts better than we know ourselves. There may be pride we have excused, bitterness we have justified, disobedience we have delayed, or attitudes we have ignored. We need God to reveal what is hidden, not so we can feel condemned, but so we can be cleansed.

The psalmist also prayed, “Lead me in the way everlasting.” God does not search us to leave us broken. He searches us to lead us into the right way. His conviction is an invitation to restoration.

Reflection

Are you willing to let God search every area of your life, even the places you would rather keep hidden?

Prayer

Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts. Show me anything in my life that is wicked, sinful, selfish, or displeasing to You. Give me the humility to confess it and the courage to turn from it. Lead me in the way everlasting. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Action

Write down these three questions and answer them honestly before God:

  1. What sin is God convicting me to confess?
  2. What attitude needs to change in my life?
  3. What step of obedience have I been delaying?

Pray over your answers today.
