Scripture Reading: Psalm 118:8 (KJV)

“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”

Devotional

There are many excuses people give for rejecting Christ, but often they can be traced back to three things: pride, pleasure, and people.

Pride says, “I will run my own life.” It refuses to bow before God. It does not want to admit guilt, weakness, or need. Pride keeps people from repentance because repentance requires humility.

Pleasure says, “I do not want to give up my sin.” Like Felix, many people love their lifestyle more than they love truth. They want the comfort of sin without the consequence of judgment. But the pleasures of sin are only for a season.

People say, “What will others think?” Some fear losing friends, family approval, reputation, or status. They put more confidence in human opinion than in the living God.

But none of these things are worth a soul. Pride will not comfort anyone in hell. Pleasure will not satisfy in eternity. People cannot save.

Jesus is worth more than all of it.

Prayer

Lord, expose every idol in my heart. If pride is ruling me, humble me. If pleasure is controlling me, free me. If fear of people is stopping me, give me courage. Help me trust You above all else. In Jesus’ name, amen.
