Scripture Reading: Matthew 14:30–31 (KJV)
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Devotional

Peter’s crisis came not when he got out of the boat, but when he took his eyes off Jesus. The wind and waves had been there all along; what changed was his focus. The more he looked at the storm, the less he trusted the Savior.

Yet in that terrifying moment, Peter did the most important thing he could do: he cried, “Lord, save me.” And the Scripture says, “immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him.” Jesus did not let him go under while He gave a long lecture. He rescued, then corrected: “O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”

We all have “beginning to sink” moments—times when obedience leads us into deeper waters than we expected, and fear takes over. The enemy whispers, “You can’t trust God. He’s not really going to show up.” That lie goes all the way back to the garden.

But the hand that formed the universe is the same hand that reached down to Peter. The One who holds galaxies in place can hold you in your crisis. Your job is not to be storm‑proof; your job is to be Christ‑focused, and when you slip, to cry out to Him.

Reflection

  • Where in your life right now do you feel like you are “beginning to sink”?
  • Do you tend to pull away from God in a crisis, or cry out like Peter did?

Prayer

Lord Jesus,
You know the winds that blow against my life and the fears that rise in my heart. I admit that I have allowed my eyes to drift from You to the storms around me. Today I cry out, “Lord, save me.” Save me from my fears, my doubts, my sins, my self‑reliance. Thank You that You are ready to reach out immediately when I call. Strengthen my faith so that I may trust Your hand even when I cannot understand Your plan. In Your strong and merciful name, Amen.

Action

Take a piece of paper and write down the specific crisis, fear, or situation where you feel you are sinking. Underneath it, write the words: “Lord, save me.” Spend several minutes praying over that paper, then keep it in your Bible as a reminder that you have placed this in His hand.
